The method of plasma cutting works by burning gas that comes out of the nozzle, and cutting occurs because electricity is formed like this occurs between gas and metal – and this creates plasma.
There is no limit to the type of metal that can be cut, because plasma can be used without seeing the type of metal needed to cut. This makes it a very versatile tool, when dealing with the metal cutting industry.
When operating a plasma cutting, you must wear protective glasses at all times, to avoid damage to the eyes. Plasma cutting can also be dangerous, if proper precautions are not taken before the machine is used, and the engine sound is also greater.
Plasma is able to cut metals with various thicknesses ranging from 1 mm and 80 mm, in the case of special cutting, plasma is a good choice when it comes to cutting thick metals.
Plasma vs Laser Cutting
These two types of cutting, have different advantages in carrying out the cutting process, lasers tend to be more accurate and faster than using plasma. But plasma can penetrate every type of metal (lasers only by using the right type, and suitable laser generators on fiber lasers).
Using plasma is a more dangerous process than laser cutting, but is also best at cutting thick material. Lasers are more effective if the metal surface is on the thinner side, and also if you need to cut other materials such as wood (co2 laser).
Using laser cutting is also less energy than plasma, lasers are also better able to produce a variety of different pieces, and can be used to make engravings (engraving).
Because laser cutting can work faster, when doing the work that is needed, it is more appropriate to choose a laser compared to plasma, especially when prioritizing work speed, but indeed, both have their own place in the industry.
